Facebook Sues Teacher Community Site
Social networking site Facebook has sued a teacher community, Teachbook, for reason of similar name, “book”. Based on the claim document which was submitted to the district court of California, Facebook declare their trademark has been imitated by Teachbook.
Teachbook itself is a web-based company recently founded in America last year. The number of member sites created as a community of new teachers is 47 people.
Regarding their trademark infringement lawsuit, Teachbook managing partner, Greg Shrader states would not the slightest trepidation. He even considered Facebook as greedy because Facebook and Teachbook companies never had any connections.
“I do not understand how the site that is worth billions of dollars would see us as a threat,” said Shrader. Moreover, he added, the U.S. patent agency has approved Teachbook name.
Now according to a spokesman for Facebook, the company has no problem as long as the site does not use a name similar to the trademark of Facebook, which uses the word “book” in the words Teachbook. “People are free to make Teachbook online network for teachers or anyone they like as long as it does not violate our trademark,” he said.
